My husband came up with a hypothesis, and I completely agree with it: Donald Trump has a “Ray Donovan” working for him. Donald Trump employs this person to find the weaknesses and secrets of anyone who shows the slightest opposition to Trump. And this person, whoever they may be, is *extremely* good at their job. They have found the most hidden skeletons in the deepest of closets. They may use violence, or the threat of violence, to ensure that “loyalty” (or at least a public declaration of loyalty) is loud and demonstrable. Trump sets this person on any public figure in the US calling themselves a Republican or a Conservative (both politicians and non-politician, but prolific people).
I have to agree with my husband. It is the only way to explain how far the pendulum has swung for so many who used to be very vocal, and loudly so, in their opposition of Trump.
Those who used to oppose him had better toe the line. Or else.
My sentiments exactly. In Lyndsey's case Matthew is correct, he needs to come out of the closet. The question that I have is; did Trump teach Epstein about blackmail or vice versa? More Coen taught them both.
I agree, I have thought something along these same lines, and the idea is chilling. And does EVERY SINGLE ONE of them have a skeleton? And is this what potentially happened with Chuck Schumer too?
I would agree with you EXCEPT for the fact those who were once the most easily heard to be speaking out against Trump - those who were loud and clear about what kind of person he is and how much damage he will cause (Lyndsay here is a great example of this) - are now unintelligible because they constantly have Trump’s dick in their mouths.
You don’t go from being that staunchly against someone/something to spending every single waking hour with your face in their taint without something catastrophic happening.
Lindsey Graham is a lost cause and a disgrace to the United States. He has no substance, no soul. He goes wherever the power is. He’s Trump’s caddy, his errand boy. He should just come out of the closet, resign from the Senate, and go away. In his present form he is totally useless.
Fine words and sentiments, but in my experience, people who become completely corrupt and depraved NEVER return to decency. Graham doesn't strike me as the type to be an exception...
Thank you for the eloquent look into Lindsay Graham's "soul", if he has one. But like the others below, I fear it's a lost cause. Maybe the South Carolina voters will heed your warning about Lindsay, but by then, I fear it will be too late.
I moved down here (SC) to marry my sweet husband in 1993. Neither one of us voted for him any time he ran for election or re-election. We especially wanted him out in 2020, after he posthumously stabbed his true friend, John McCain, in the back.
"You were once someone who understood that integrity mattered."
You must have been paying attention to Lindsay (and things) much longer than I have. He's been a self-serving piece of shit for at least a decade. It didn't take much bravery or principle to state the obvious about the Emperor in 2016.
He crawled into line soon enough. Maybe not as openly enthusiastic early on, but scarcely a whisper of criticism in years.
But sure. Since the coronation, he just another orangeass licker with a somewhat higher profile. He's abominable-er, but he's been a pile of wet diarrhea for years.
I really respected Lindsay once upon a time but I suppose, for better or worse, it's good he never became president. Even now, with all his many mistakes, he could stand up and fight for our democracy, the working class and the poor and could possibly win a lot of us back.
Instead of being such a monumental part of the problem. Hopefully now but certainly in the future there will be a huge outcry, a roar, that will destroy and demolish many a kiss ass, selfish politician. After that day, hopefully, we'll all watch how you manage to survive on SSI and medicare.
You're a greedy, heartless asshole of a little man, Lindsay
You did the right thing in calling upon Mr. Graham to get reacquainted with his true beliefs, but sadly, I don't believe he has any. He is, as Steve Schmidt once observed, a pilot fish. For him, the pendulum swings whichever way is necessary to keep him alive.
These are the very worst, those who have shown (in the distant past) that they know better. The Grahams, the Vances. Those who wake up every morning looking to see which side the bread is buttered on today. Now I certainly have little (ie, no) patience for ignorance but it's more forgivable than outright self-interested evil.

Interesting, because the very first thing that popped in my head as I'm reading this is, "So what does Trump have on Graham?"

This goes for Rubio too. But they can’t ever stand up for democracy again. Who would trust or believe them?

Well written. And nicer than anything I’d say to this sad sad traitor

Lindsey is disgusting. He is the anti-truth, cannot be trusted. Too far gone!
PS. He has no soul...there's no doubt about that in my mind.

Hope you don't mind if I shuffle the language a bit and send an excerpt - to Graham.
Not at all.

Utterly pathetic
