Yes, times have changed; the stakes are much higher now. Stephen has matured, and with that comes caution, and rightfully so. Think smart. Act smart. We don't need a martyr. We want Stephen around to fight another day.

But they did a grand farewell to The Colbert Report. Even after the switch to The Late Show, he did an homage to The Word.

The biggest problem is that SC can’t say anything dumber that this current administration. Or it would be a huge challenge!

That's why Veep had to end too - Frank Rich and Julia Louis Dreyfuss said in Trump I that reality had become satire.

Good point. The satire might be lost!

Excellent point. The Colbert report reminded everyone who watched it just what we are up against…fake news…while it parodied it. AND it made us laugh…incredulously! Stephen’s show now just makes us more outraged, cleverly, but no one wants to laugh at things so serious. One day a week of the old Colbert would be perfect! And that superPac he started was so over the top that another one might start a reform movement….

You might really be on to something here. Maybe the other Stephen Colbert can plow through the flood of sh*t. We're not going to reason our way out of this.

As long as the Colbert Report doesn’t give the current regime any other bad ideas they wouldn’t come up with on their own…

Y'all. The Stephen Colberts changed my life.

That might be an exaggeration; in these upside down times, that's really hard to discern.

But I do know that, in my younger days of being a registered R-word (back when there was still a modicum of sensibility and humor about them), Stephen Colbert (not him, the other one) gave me permission to first laugh at the absurdities within the party, and later, to soul-search my way off the burning ship as it sank into racist-infested waters. No kidding: when I needed a reality check, I checked in with the least realistic version of him. Those were the days. *sigh*

Reminds me of something I wrote in 2016, when “The Late Show” was foundering:

I could not agree more!! I was at the Jon Stewart’s “Rally to Restore Sanity” and that Stephen Colbert’s, The Colbert Report's “March to Keep Fear Alive” rally in DC in 2010. It was the most electrifying, inspiring rally I have ever and may ever be a part of.

The message was strong, the crowd was engaged and we were all feeling a sense of togetherness. WE NEED THAT NOW!

Thank you for the “Colbert Report” reminder version of that Stephen Colbert. I do still love CBS’s Stephen Colbert, he’s just been watered down.

Wow, sounds like it missed good times. I never watched comedy central, but enjoy immensely the current show. It's where we get our daily news

It's wonderful to see this homage to Stephen Colbert. Stephen, Seth Meyers and Jimmy Kimmel help to keep the good people in the USA sane. Laughter is a powerful tool and the current format still contains plenty of satire. If, heaven forbid, the First Amendment is ever repealed, I want them all to move to Canada to be safe. May the universe bless them all with long, free and happy lives.

There was a time I love and watched a lot of late night TV. Recorded so I could fast forward commercials at a time I was awake. That might tell you how long ago i was and how the world has changed. Now I spend the same time watching random but rarely late night stuff on youtube.

During the first trump presidency it seemed like it was all the easy jokes about what trump had done today. It all just stopped being funny or smart. Speaking of the first trump, if the world has to have a trump wouldn't we prefer the first one?

The Cobert Report was under the Comedy Central line up. That Stephen Colbert died out when Stephen took over the CBS Late Night position and has to toe the line.

I really like the Colbert Report as pure satire. Late Night is ok and something to watch while eating dinner.
