At the end--or really, a couple of years before the end, Cheney seemed to do an about face; voting for Harris, declaring that Trump was not really a nice guy, etc. etc. He had a kind of political/religious conversion-- maybe he didn't like the way the Republicans/Trump treated his daughter, maybe some light found it's way into to the dark, nasty room in which he lived... Who knows?

But I wonder, did Cheney ever publicly apologize for his crimes? A real live, out-there, in-public, apology for all the scheming and lying and deaths and torture that could be laid right at his doorstep... Apologize for strong-arming the CIA into altering their reports to show that Saddam had "weapons of mass destruction"--(thus giving his dimwit boss, and his old pals at Haliburton, a reason to invade; And, apologize for the Iraq war and secret prisons and torture and violations of law and decency that were an essential element in creating Trump's twisted dictatorship...

Cheney was a scheming, murderous, lying human being-- and though it's generally not a good thing to speak ill of the dead, he was one those exceptions where ill-speaking is the only karmic option... His redemption needed to be BIBLICAL... What he needed to do--if he had any real intention of saving his putrid old soul--was go over to Iraq, strip himself naked, kneel down in a public square in Baghdad and say he was sincerely sorry to every human being that passed by--until his voice gave out and what remained of him swept away in the hot wind...

Which part seems too harsh? We are curious if there was a specific sentence or if it was something else. We appreciate your readership.

How many deaths was this war criminal responsible for, we’ll never know… we’ve seen the evil that resides in guys like him before, he should have died in an oubliette for his crimes, thankfully we can hope that death seeks and finds a more cretinous wastrel in this epoch!

Great post, thanks for sharing!

You do not disparage someone when they die! Your ding dong headline is right from Trumps book of disrespect.

Death comes to all. You make it seem like death had a particular target in Cheney. Eighty-four years is a longer than average run for these times, especially for one who faced death so many times before. In fact, Cheney described a vivid pleasant dream he had while in a coma weeks after his 2010 heart transplant surgery. Doesn’t sound like someone “death” was gunning for … or someone suffering extreme guilt over decisions made. Yet, Cheney did have a “change of heart” after that surgery. Maybe the point is the possibility of redemption. While Cheney may not have ever publicly acknowledged his sins, he did not run away from them by making excuses or blaming others for his decisions and actions. Few people are wholly good or wholly evil. It’s unhelpful to try to portray them as such. Cheney was, like most of us, a deeply flawed man, perhaps more so than most, but perhaps not more than others who live their lives under the glare of public scrutiny. I was no fan of Cheney’s, and admit that some of my judgements might be tempered by the “enemy of my enemy” equation, yet Cheney was a man whose family appeared to love him and spewing bile at this point hurts only them.
