Yes. Fascism needs an enemy, someone to blame, someone to hate, someone to destroy, to justify itself, in the name of righteousness.

And right now, it certainly appears to me that we are way too close to the edge and at imminent risk of free falling into the abyss.

Every article I read about how 47 and his regime are destroying our democracy, references the midterms. That's not good enough. People are being hurt now, in real time, and our legislative branch is about to inflict unbearable pain on Americans by letting the ACA subsidies expire. Each month this regime is in power it unleashes new and horrific ways of hurting people. The midterms aren't until next November and the newly elected won't take office until January. That's too long!!! How do we stop this now?!?

Wow! Just wow! That was a beautifully written piece, well thought out and so very on point as to be scary. This explains so much of the present day madness, especially how an entire society can sleepwalk into the past.

And perhaps that is the point; sleepwalking is so much easier than purposefully striving. I’ve always known how absolutely terrified I was no matter how ‘dangerous’ I looked but I never extrapolated that to recognize that the dangerous looking were frightened as well. A whole population of mice wearing lion suits, pointing at each other to keep anyone from noticing our own deception.

The worst part of this whole expose is this; while it looks like a sudden shift it’s been happening for generations and will take a rude awakening to stop. Forecast calls for pain

For a lesson on Fascism and Bigotry read Art Spiegelman’s book “Maus I and II”. And consider William Faulkner’s statement “The past is never dead. It’s not even past!”

Sounds familiar.

If fascism is "a void wrapped in violence", is there something that perpetuates the void? People craving power? Or in the case of present day US, men who want to keep their billions?

But, therein lies the flaw of democracy. Unless there is a unanimous vote, you will have a marginalized community, and now you have a might-is-right government.

This dire malignancy is spreading in many countries, including here in Australia… sadly, a growing proportion of ‘white’ Australians have a natural propensity for racism and bigotry. The dog whistling and scapegoating from our rising political rightwing, plus the relentless bot lies spread on social media and orchestrated globally by vested interests, eg. the Atlas network, are successfully stoking hate and division, most apparent online. It is very disheartening.

Very well written and outlined guide to how our current political "leaders" are nothing but spineless, weak fear mongers.
