He seeks any attention at all- the more negative the better because it affirms what he already believes about himself-that his self worth is nil. He seeks from the press, from 'perceived enemies,' from those he perceives as powerful, to help him fill that empty spot inside.
But it does not fill that hole because he is a spiritual sieve. It's incredible, and sickening, disgusting even, to watch him shamelessly scramble to prop up his emptiness in real time. The result is a massive load of external debt, both personal and governmental, that he knows he will never be able to pay without admitting the existence of the hollow core that IS who he is. He has run from that truth his entire life, that Knowing of his emptiness, his complete void of self-worth. He is destined to spend and spend and spend (other people's money of course) when he has zero inner ability to pay his debts to society. A lesson for us all.
