This could not be more perfectly said.

For those of you in Texas, thinking you know what "Bless your ❤️ " has come to mean..

Erin's avatar

Oh, it's always meant that, clear across Texas and the south. It's all about that inflection. LOL

Even if we're not in Tejas, we know what it means. And agree.

Nice work hollowing out Abbott, who seems to have the same delusions of grandeur his master has, only on a state level. Bless his pea-picking shriveled up ossified excuse for a heart, in the most Southern of ways.

A brilliant piece of writing, more barbs than a pro bass tournament

This is pretty brilliant too.

for maximum impact, you need to send this magnificent post to abbott and all the republicans in the TX house & senate...and while you're at it, trump too. they all need to hear this. we all get it, duh.

That's a GREAT idea!!

Wow! Really...wow! Excellent writing & so "flavorful & spot on" As a born & raised Texan who so, so unfortunately has become trapped in the Midwest ( MO....the worst of the Midwest). I have been reading for months and waiting to select the first person I actually pay on substack which I wish I could pay each and every person of course, but sir you just maybe it! Wonderful article please keep it up!

Actually, Iowa is worse. I lived there 27 months & it was the longest 5 years of my life. That's how bad it felt.

Amelia Adams's avatar

Lol! That's funny, because after I wrote that I thought” well I've been to Iowa a few times and that's like totally dystopian! “Not that MO is not, but I'm sure it's a whole “clump o’ states” that would qualify!

I agree! Wonderful article. Pay attention Governor Abbott!

Hello, Friends,

1. It's quora, not quorums. Bless your grammatically incorrect heart.

2. However many members are or are not present to make a quorum, federal law is clear. A governor can not overturn the election by the people of a state legislator. Even the SCOTUS can't squirm out of this worm can.

3. The Texas thing to do is to bet Governor Abbott a few dollars about the outcome of this silliness. A real Texan would be obliged to take the bet. One could also remind him of a previous Texan's remark. Cactus Jack Garner, FDR's vice president, characterized his office as ‘not worth a quart of warm spit.' Governor Abbott could be compared to the quart or the contents.

In Abbott's case though, it's only a half-pint.

Listen, I'm liking your energy. I just feel - and I say this as a fellow Wordie - that it's time we moved past pedantic "corrections." Check out MW's expert opinion:

Quorum

noun

quo·rum ˈkwȯr-əm

plural: quorums or quora ˈkwȯr-ə

1: the minimum number of officers or members of a body that is required to be present at a given meeting (as to transact business)

Trump's MAGA trick pony has come up lame. He'll keep trying to ride it; wonder when the wranglers will realize they're beating a dead horse.

Fantastic column; I've reposted it everywhere.

I'm not Texan, not American but I'm following it all because of this writing. In Feb. I caught a Closer to the Edge "rant" on FB. I love getting my politics via bold truths delivered with peppery sarcasm. I was hooked from the first and became a subscriber. Carry on, you are needed.

Very good! My thought was Abbott is an example of big hat, no cows, but you said it much more eloquently — thank you!
