Let’s be absolutely clear: the President of the United States just went on national television and said “I don’t know” when asked if he’s required to uphold the Constitution. That’s not a paraphrase. That’s a direct quote. The man who took the oath of office with a hand on the Bible and the other presumably on a Big Mac has now openly admitted he has no idea what that oath actually means.
And it wasn’t a trick question.
Kristen Welker of Meet the Press asked him point-blank:
“Do you believe that as president you have an obligation to uphold the Constitution?”
Trump: “I don’t know. It depends on what you mean by uphold.”
That sound you just heard was George Washington’s wooden teeth cracking from beyond the grave.
This wasn’t a moment of misspeaking or confusion. Trump rambled on for over a minute, spinning himself into a legal pretzel made entirely of ketchup and hubris. He talked about “lawyers telling him what to do,” as if the presidency is a particularly complex episode of The Apprentice: Constitutional Edition. He called the 14th Amendment “very inappropriate” and suggested we shouldn’t give due process to immigrants because it’s just too hard. You know, like taxes and stairs.
ON DUE PROCESS:
“I don’t believe we should give them all due process… You have thousands and thousands of people. You have to go through a process?”
Yes, Donald. That’s literally what “due process” means. We don’t abandon the law just because you’re overwhelmed by paperwork. That’s like a surgeon saying, “There’s just too much blood—let’s skip the anesthesia.”
ON GREENLAND:
“I would’ve bought it… we would’ve gotten a good price.”
He’s still talking about buying Greenland. Like it’s a used boat on Craigslist. The man cannot tell you whether he has to follow the Constitution, but he is confident he could’ve struck a real estate deal with the Kingdom of Denmark.
ON CANADA:
“I don’t think we’re going to have to go that far.”
That’s a real quote. About Canada. When asked if he’d consider military action.
Not “of course not.” Not “don’t be ridiculous.” Just: “I don’t think.”
That’s the first honest thing he’s said in years.
This isn’t just ignorance. It’s dereliction in a wig. The Constitution isn’t optional. It’s the job description. But Trump talks about it like it’s a Yelp review he didn’t bother to read. Imagine a pilot shrugging and saying, “I don’t know if I have to fly the plane—it depends what you mean by fly.”
We’re now in the second term of a man who can’t define “uphold,” thinks rights are too exhausting to enforce, and sees sovereign nations as property listings. It’s not just dangerous. It’s pathetic. And it would be hilarious—if it weren’t real.
If you believe the Constitution should come with more than a side of fries, subscribe below. We’re not done.
He wouldn't put his hand on the Bible when he was sworn in Jan '25!
So I bet he thinks it doesn't count. My cat is a better Christian than he.
Hé did not put his hand on the Bible.
