And why isn't this all over the news? We as Americans should be ashamed. I know I am.

mary thiel's avatar

Yes, why isn’t the NYTimes putting this on their front page instead of their bloviated coverage of every nuance of the trump regime?

Wendy's avatar

Because the owners work for Trump. (I so hope you're not related to Peter.)

mary thiel's avatar

Somehow I doubt enough actually work for trump. They seem to not want to ruffle feathers so they take neutral position. But they probably have one thing in common with those who work for trump, a love of money.

Well, I’ve never seen Peter bother to show up at any family get togethers. Haha. Thiel is, so I’ve heard, a fairly common name in Germany, and there are many Thiels in the Midwest, as many came over to get away from forever wars in the late 1800’s.

probably because the war, epstein, the economy, affordability, job losses, the president depicted as Jesus, and COUNTLESS other atrocities vie for attention (justifyingly) ALL . THE . TIME

I thought they had shut it down. And I wonder also why this isn't all over the news? This is NOT the United States of America!! This is a DISGRACE!!!

"Disgrace" = far too kind.

Thank you so much for staying the course and sharing Debbie Wasserman’s testimony.

But how does one find the appropriate words to even respond to this shocking, horrendous news? It’s overwhelming.

How is this possibly happening in the United States of America??? And WHY? To WHAT END?

My heart is so broken, so heavy with grief.

Kevin Bermingham's avatar

Actions or responses? I don't even hear crickets!

Thanks for bringing this to our attention. Unfortunately this is an all-too-familiar occurrence under the T…p regime. It’s too familiar because in WWII in Germany under the auspices of Hitler and the Nazis concentration camps housed and killed people just for what they looked like. And where is the condemnation from anyone who has a law degree about the failure of the legal system to be accessed by “detainees”. The Congresswoman has shown her bravery and fierce understanding and support of The Constitution. When will America become incensed enough to do something about it?

This sickens me. Representative Debbie Wasserman Schultz has reported these ongoing horrendous conditions to Congress. From their track record, it is doubtful anything will be done by this useless group of hypocrites. Shameful.

Thank you for drawing attention to these brutal abuses. Keep up the good fight!

Praise and acknowledgement to Rep. Wasserman for doing her job and then reporting to Congress. She should also request a press conference with media outlets from legacy and independents. A few (legacy) should still have the guts to report the news instead of the daily propaganda machine out of the White House.

This is HIDDEN to allow cruelty on this level to thrive in the shadows, and it's FORGOTTEN because the truth of it will shatter our minds and pierce our hearts until we wither from the pain of seeing and knowing, and being totally unable to do anything to stop it.

Our whole psyche of what we believed to be our acceptable behavior to each other as fellow human beings, our laws that protect us and give us justice as written in our constitutions, our institutions of authority being run by our most respectable men and women who are held to a higher standard because of their positions of authority and power over others, … has been turned upside down and spilled like so much garbage, on the ground. T

That's a blow that eats at your very essence. It eats at you because you are helpless to stop it. This is a Representative of the Congress of the United States of America standing before its members and reporting what illegal atrocities she's witnessed herself, and what response was given…silence! No action, no reporting to the people by those Representatives, no media response in reporting it. Silence…

If not for this platform and other independent social media, this didn't happen…!! Think about that and let it sink in. That's why this administration has silenced and smothered everything that exposes their crimes and any means to stop them from continuing them. You can't stop what you don't know exists and if you find a crack and discover a crime, — you can't stop it because the foundation supporting that road has been mined with sink holes to prevent you ever reaching justice in any form whatsoever.

We know who's the problem — Trump.

We know who's helping him — those around him and the Republicans in the House and Senate.

We know who allowed him to get to this position — McConnell.

We know who's responsible for his immunity from justice — the Supreme Court.

AND — we know who's going to have to stop him and his juggernaut from continuing his crimes and atrocities against humanity, (both here and abroad). Us, …all of us!! WE the people…! At the voting booths, on your ballot. That's our only opportunity because our representatives in Congress (except for a very few) aren't willing to put the effort into a continual, daily, relentless fight using every legal, every media/public information outlet, whatever opening available to them, won't fight for us and this nation as it was intended to be governed.

This post is an ugly truth that needs the light of exposure.

Well said. Thank you.

=The US was long a beacon of human rights and a leader in governance by Rule of Law. The hideous Trump administration has abandoned those lofty principles. There is no better example of this than Alligator Alley. The "offenses" for which most inmates are there are not even crimes. Entering the country illegally is a misdemeanor, Remaining in the US without "papers" is not a crime at all, but is a civil offense for which the remedy is deportation--not lengthy imprisonment and physical deprivation and punishment. ICE should do the work of immigration enforcement--investigating potential violators and deporting those who qualify for deportation.

Are there any news media outlets among the major TV news stations that are not owned by the Trump administration or his loyalist? I knew about the prison, but I have never seen any published reports about their recent conditions. Why are the news media scared of Trump? Do journalist no longer have balls like Congress no longer has?

Julia Treland's avatar

One wonders if the Chamber was empty as Rep Wasserman delivered this report, as it is too often. Yesterday, April 15th, the Administration was all too happy for the 98% to “settle up” our accounts so they could keep funding such things that most of us would never have agreed to.

Suel J's avatar

Congress have neutered themselves.

Suel J's avatar

Why is this not being covered more??? I am horribly ashamed. The people we have demanded stopping this horror are not listening. We elected these people. They work for us. So why are more people not using the right to inspect in every state where a facility exists??

mary thiel's avatar

Thank you so much for keeping us informed on this situation, and for publishing this very well said indictment.

Would be more impressed if she toured detention camps in Israel

Lorraine's avatar

Why would that impress you? This is happening in America.

Wendy's avatar

I assume you mean the camps where Palestinians were put away.
