Been subscribed to Dan's emails for probably almost a decade now. And I absolutely love this contribution to him and the man he is.

Likewise. He was also one of the few TV anchors I actually watched.

You are correct! I have followed Dan Rather for years, and that includes when he was a broadcaster. He's a true professional, factual and STEADY!

Truer words 👏 Dan Rather is awesome. I watched him every night with my grandmother when I was growing up. It's a pleasure to read his substack.

Dan was my first substack subscription. And an anchor I grew up with in days of 3 networks to choose from. Of course Steady should be in the top 10!

Love his articles and his “steady” approach to what occurs daily these days. I upgraded my membership. The value of Dan Rather’ insight into American politics has been proven over decades. “Steady” defines him perfectly.

The responses to this post make me once again mourn the untimely passing of Tim Russert, a journalist in the mold of Mr. Rather - integrity- honesty- holding politicians to account.

And I look forward to his Sunday "Reason to Smile" post. :-)

I’m Rather’s generation, so I’ve been subscribed for a long time. So glad you’re putting out the word. The younger generation has now been told! Thanks for promoting a steadfast teller of truth.

I fully agree with your sentiments regarding Dan Rather. He comes from an age, and maybe he was to close to the cusp of that age, when journalists were highly regarded, respected, delivered the news without a whimper, without any glitzy language, just the facts as he saw them. His unceremonious departure from CBS came as the news industry was becoming overly sensitive, particularly during the Vietnam crisis, when telling the truth wasn’t highly sought after. I see this in Dan each time I read his pieces. He speaks my language, his ethics are clearly on the side of freedom of the speech and the truth. So thank you for highlighting Dan today, and hopefully he’ll gain some new readership and see himself inch forward in subscriptions.

At 84 yrs of age, I am very familiar with Dan Rather and I am subscribed to to him. Your recognition of him and your brilliant use of the English language to describe him are two of the reasons why I subscribe to you. This, in my humble opinion, is one of your best posts!
