As much as I agree he sees it more as a branding & enrichment opportunity, he’s hardly the first to misrepresent the original doctrine in favor of American imperialism. When Trump declares that the United States will ‘run Venezuela’ he makes it sound like it’s a corner store he’s taking over, a smallish company being taken over by a big corporation. That’s exactly how it sounds and I think that’s exactly how he and Rubio et al see it. They treat the government of the USA as a big corporation and we’ve seen how the assets have been stripped, how Departments and Divisions have been downsized, cut, rebranded, the workers let go, the corporate knowledge lost. Being run for a profit. Not the people’s though. Trump is ‘running’ the USA much as he ‘ran’ the companies he bankrupted (six times) while enriching himself and his family and those to whom he owes favours.
Big Oil will run Venezuela as a reward for the funding they provided to get Trump elected. I remember Trump saying he wanted a billion dollars from the oil companies. Well, did they cough up the dough because now they are receiving recompense. Handsomely. Bigly, even.
