Love these candid shots of the "big party". He's never read anything by F.Scott Fitzgerald but the Cliffs Notes. And staffers probably had to include some pictures along with the cliff notes so that he could get the gist of things. He doesn't realize how it ended for Gatsby. He looks like a huge idiot ( constantly) but bigly in these pics. What a fool. Hopefully an enterprising kitchen staff pissed in the punch..

I cannot imagine how those people around him think he is OK or what is happening to this great country is OK . It defies everything we have been privileged to be living in the USA to see it all being systematically being destroyed while they sit in their ivory towers.

If those. Rich folk had a skerrick of decency. They would not be there. Would they.

Amelia Adams's avatar

You would think ( hope) not…..but the assumption of decency is the outrageous point

I’m pretty sure decency wasn’t to be found anywhere in that room…

More an overwhelming stink of indulgence, self-promotion and misguided grandiosity.

The photos make the narrative even more grotesque.

One can only suspect the timing of the display was with awareness: others will not be getting basic needs met even when he could correct the problem.

He is self-serving and cruel.

What I only saw for a minute yesterday was a young woman, scantily clad of course, sitting in a giant martini glass that was slowly turning around. It was classic. I have not been able to find it again. It sums up the decadence.

This decadence is also reminiscent of France before the Revolution. Although I don't recommend chopping off heads, it is a time for peaceful revolt and justice and maybe more than just a few orange jump suits. Gatsby's not a favorite of mine but here, the shoe really fits and it's kicking the backside of the American people. Thank you for bring this darkness to light.

Well, Gatsby ends up dead in the pool. Merry Christmas.

Yes. We can only hope the plot plays out!

I'd like to see the Crazy Batsby face down dead on the drain in that monstrosity he replaced the rose garden with.

What a disgusting display of decadence! One can only hope that they end up with the same fate, as their counterparts of the 1920's.

DT never misses an opportunity to take a dump on humanity. The airplane dropping shit on the No Kings marchers, and now flaunting his decadent bullshit on people who are wondering where to get their next meal. The shindig was at Mar-a-Lago, but we all know our taxes paid for it. How long do we put up with this?

Do you support a general strike? I don't know much about how that works but have heard some conversations on how it is yet another way to peacefully push back.

Blackout strike on Nov 25-Dec2 stop whatever you can! No shopping, no work no supporting any large corporations no eating out, etc. do whatever you can do!!! Starve the rich!!!

Catherine's avatar

How did everyone do with the strike? We did 90% blackout. We made a couple of Costco and Bj purchases around the 1st.

I'm wondering how much publicity this "party" is getting throughout the country. Maybe there's a way we can help spread it around, you think? What are the Interwebs for if not to disseminate information? Maybe some flyers near food banks? BTW - food banks are mostly in need of $$. Please consider supporting your local ones.

"... doesn’t give a damn about anyone but himself and his wealthy friends.”

He doesn't even care about his wealthy friends. If he could figure out a way, he would milk them for every penny, then laugh in their faces.

The convicted felon at play! Trump fiddles while the poor go hungry. Nero didn’t have a great end and neither will Trump and his cronies!

I’ve read a few articles about this Gadsby-themed gathering but I haven’t read anything about cost to attend. I imagine the current president to be a total cheapskate, at least with his own money, so I’m doubting he threw this party and picked up the tab. Any ideas? Were there sponsors? Prepaid reservations?

As my boyfriend's best friend used to say at his drunken parties, "We're eatin cake or cock tonight, and we're all outa cake!"

Will have to re read Gatsby. But I do remember the theme and this regime is it. Rich people rule .Middle finger to all the rest of the US population.

It was a very long time ago I read the book, but I think it ended poorly for Gatsby. 🤞
