We must focus our millions on making this choice tangible to the dozens of reps who already see their races as underwater thanks to what Trump and Noem have already done.

This is where DNC Chair Ken Martin makes a deal with prospective defectors to not fund or back a candidate against them in November as long as they remain as independents caucusing with Democrats into 2027.
In this deal we get the gavel, they get career security and the status of a trusted bipartisan voice going forward.

I appreciate the writing in this Substack, and the spirit behind having an alternative to the State of the Union, but referring to DC as a "swamp" is Republican framing used to deligitimize the federal government, and dehumanize the people living in DC.
