I’ve sat in immigration courts as a support person for undocumented immigrants. It’s a grueling process played out in slow motion…but it is a process, governed by rules and policies…well, it used to be that.
No doubt, the US is long overdue for immigration reform, a reform that is humane, streamlined, judicious. This halter-skelter cruelty is NOT a legitimate (or legal) pathway to a better system.
I suppose it is a global, international, problem. That being true, reform of immigration systems must all begin with one absolute truth: We are all equally and wonderfully human. Any system that dehumanizes any person, that rips human dignity away from anyone for any reason, leaves us all bare and shivering in darkness. I want no part in this.
When my kids were kids, we needed SNAP and Medi-Cal (Medicaid in California). The forms were long, repetitive, and confusing. Required documentation was extensive. Appointments were mandatory, and scheduled without reference to our work hours. But if you want something from the government, you do what's required so that your kids get what they need.
Her mom skipped an appointment, and they make you pay for that. She was issued a deportation order in 2018.
Why has this been neglected for 7 years? Why did it require physical detection to try to fix it? What has been done since the order was issued to rectify the situation?
I abhor seeing J6 thugs in gaiters snatch people up and traffic them out of the country. I demand due process for every individual. And I know the effort it takes to satisfy a government that wants you to go away.
