My father Pete Seeger wrote this:

My father’s mansion has many rooms

With room for all of his children

As long as they do share his love

And see that all are free

And see that all are free to love

And see that all are free to learn

And free to open and to close

The door of their own room

Because they say we must not sing any songs referring to walls, and they say we must tears down ALL walls.

I disagree. I say we must all listen and think things through the present meaning, the historically intended meaning, and the future implicated meanings before reacting impulsively.

Remembering our history is as crucial as imagining and creating the future.

There is no roof to protect the innocent from storms without strong walls to hold the roof.

Think deeply and be sure we are understanding the lyrics in the context they were intended.

“ Well May the World Go “ for instance is a happy upbeat song. Yet my father was anything but happy with the state of the world when he died. He did feel it important to imagine that there is hope for the future, and plan for a good outcome no matter how improbable that seemed.

My musician/song writer brother-in-law Steve Schuch/Night Heron Music spent many a wonderful day with your dad on the Hudson River Sloop Clearwater. That friendship deepened Steve's ecology work, music for children, and now on behalf of immigrants.

We have no idea how our work in the world will benefit others.

With gratitude, Tinya! And Pete.

Bingo. They made their beds. Now they can lie in them alone. We're moving forward to right the wrongs they enabled.

On board 100%. Tired of pretending this is simply a matter of a difference of opinion. It’s not. It’s a matter of human dignity versus cruelty. Of empathy versus indifference. Of freedom versus oppression. And I am tired of the news outlets giving time to MAGA crap like it’s a valid political viewpoint.

Yes, tired. To some who've pushed me to give them proof, I've written, "Your ignorance is your own responsibility." And it is.

I never was on board with providing space for discussion with MAGA proponents/ Trump supporters. I don't engage with those who are motivated by greed, hatred, bigotry.

Thank you

This is a great example of boundary building.

I set this boundary and I then got a lecture about how “country” people (ie magat bigots) are so much better and different than “city folk” (EVERYBODY ELSE).

This just happened to me yesterday. I just shut down the goading and got a “well, Dems sure are stupid” comment before i blocked the guy. They don’t /cant understand.

MAGAts are all over Substack, too! I had to block one today. He was VERY rude & calling me names; I guess felon47 is his role model.

Everyone knows "city folk" are better (tongue-in-cheek)!

I could not agree more. Those who condone cruelty time after time are suspect to have Trump’s hate in their own hearts.

Life is too short to reason with trumpers. Better to part ways than try to understand their circular reasoning. Anything they disagree with is fake news. It's not worth the stress in your life. Spend time with people who are kind and can build you up.

It must be so seductive. The promise that all of the ills of your world are because of people Not Like You. The Others. I feel it's the weakest characters that need this.

Will someone more technically-advanced than I please forward this to CNN (especially to CNN), ABC, NBC and CBS so they will stop this nauseous crap about "balanced reporting"? Show the door to creeps like Scott Jennings and the rest of Trump's sycophants and enablers.

Did this during FOTUS’ 1st term with a couple of close family members… politics do not exist when we are in the same space…. it works only because they respect my rule, and don’t want to lose contact with me.

I have an ex son-in-law who has cut ties with his large, very close family over this very issue. I commend him for his resolve.
