The United States presidential policy has become Al Capone’s Chicago in my grandfather’s time.

My grandfather had a cigar store. Capone used to come in. There’s a photo of my mother as a child sitting on the floor between Capone’s legs. He wore white spats. My grandfather paid him or his representatives regularly. Thus we are alive today.

We need to get rid of this gang of thieves before we become Russians - sure we are Numba One, the greatest, afraid of chaos, wanting only to be allowed to have private lives, while the world burns and floods around us.

It’s on us, people. This is on us.

Precisely correct.

Absolutely--D.C. is just a trial run…

See the language authorizing nationwide militarization, hidden within Trump's Executive Order of 8/25/25 (deceptively entitled "ADDITIONAL MEASURES TO ADDRESS THE CRIME EMERGENCY IN THE DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA") (pay particular attention to the last sentence):

Section 2(d)(ii): "The Secretary of Defense shall immediately begin ensuring that each State’s Army National Guard and Air National Guard are resourced, trained, organized, and available to assist Federal, State, and local law enforcement in quelling civil disturbances and ensuring the public safety and order whenever the circumstances necessitate, as appropriate under law. In coordination with the respective adjutants general, the Secretary of Defense shall designate an appropriate number of each State’s trained National Guard members to be reasonably available for rapid mobilization for such purposes. In addition, the Secretary of Defense shall ensure the availability of a standing National Guard quick reaction force that shall be resourced, trained, and available for rapid nationwide deployment."

“There comes a time when silence means betrayal” Martin Luther King

At this time in history each of us needs to speak up and speak out— otherwise

remaining Silent Bystanders will be a betrayal of our country and democracy.

No, he hasn't outright "outlawed" the press, but look how they're treating him—sanewashing as far as the eye can see. And if anyone dares to say anything bad about him, he sues and, inexplicably, "wins" by the media company settling with him to line his pockets and try to take the wingnut heat off them.

No, he hasn't outlawed the media, but he certainly has a firm grip on their balls.

Mary Therése's avatar

I agree— and DJT constantly crying “Fake News” further discredits the press

Don’t forget the masked thugs rampaging around the country dragging people into vans. Pretty much brown shirt types.

You could also mention the fact that just as Hitler had Mussolini and Stalin as buddies — all involved in similar brutality— so too does Trump have his foreign friends Putin and Netanyahu.

All BFF!

Tempertantrump, the PR man for Project 2025 doesn’t outlaw voting for MAGA but block all others. Press is not made illegal for those he chooses, but closes the door for all others. Fascism 101. Free speech is not illegal, but is now behind paywalls.

For as long as possible, watch FSTV. As far as I know, the best independent news source available and you can find it on your computer.

Mary Therése's avatar

FSTV— please tell us a bit more about this news source

Josie Esquivel's avatar

I get it on cable and I insist that it be on that cable or I find another. I'm in North Carolina so it's Hot Wire, but check yours. They have reporters World wide, and are based in Denver. The main news program, Democracy Now! is out of New York with a reporter in Chicago. If you remember the student strike at Columbia in the 60s, Juan was the young man reading the manifesto on the steps! These guys are very experienced in reporting on America and they have guys in many countries too. Check it out.

Have no doubt anywhere in your mind. Certainly in Calif, but probably in most Dem states, when people are lined up to vote in the midterms, fascist ICE agents will swoop in and grab (POC) voters in line, before they can vote for Dems. The objective is intimidation.

Mary Therése's avatar

Anything is possible— and each of us needs to start getting prepared now 🇺🇸

Jstn Green's avatar

I'd say this is way beyond "possible" and well into "guaranteed" territory. And yes, preparing for it now is the reason for my posting this comment. We must devise a way to shut this down. The obvious solution is a massive mail-in voting campaign, however, with the Mad King attacking that and a corrupt SC that may back him, who knows if we'll have mail in voting at that time. Time to think outside the box.

Speaking of "redecorating the House..." have you seen how disgustingly gold the Oval Office has become? 🤢 🤮

Cheri Russell's avatar

Bordello!!! Many of the wall "decorations" can be purchased at a local hardware store. Painted with gold spray paint. The thing that just kills me is the cherub above the door. Simply NOT enough eyeroll emojis for that.

Mike A's avatar

Here's a few to get you started 🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄

Thinking we are going to have to studs down clear this hallowed room. Seriously, scrape it like a turtle, whale or other sea creature with parasitic barnacles.

Exorcism, burning of sage, WTF ever.

The US has been a nominally [lower case ‘d’] democratic, incipient fascist regime for decades.

When your constitution exercises no power of requirement or restraint over the several branches of government, their operations, interrelationships, agencies or institutions and processes of state — it means that the Republic has fallen.

The Republic of the United States has passed from the historical scene. It. Doesn’t. Exist.

You have no social or political rights.

You are a stateless person.

Patricia's avatar

I agree, but all of you writers keep saying the same thing, WE have to do something, and millions of people are, but constantly blaming “The people” is disingenuous! We vote for all the members of congress…and all of the representatives voted into office are bound by the oath they took to defend the constitution against exactly what is happening! No democrat has done anything except whine and stamp their feet! Impeach the Supreme Court, impeach trump. We have all these checks and balances and no body does a damn thing!

Sherry Gerbi's avatar

My Governor, Gavin Newsom, is doing a fine job in trolling the orange buffoon or have you missed that?

Cheri Russell's avatar

Gov. Newsom has been so REFRESHING to so many of us. Personally, I can not begin to express my gratitude enough! GO GAVIN! GO CALIFORNIA!

GS-z-14-1's avatar

What do you think is needed?

You’re witnessing a coup.

You need social revolution.

But you’ll settle for trolling?

🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️

Sherry Gerbi's avatar

That’s certainly better than nothing. Besides it irks dRumpf & his sycophants.

GS-z-14-1's avatar

Actually, it most assuredly is not — unless the interest is to seek psychological catharsis.

The thing is, Sherry — there is a political solution for every political problem and crisis.

Only by implementing the material conditions required to counter ongoing class struggle attacks do we engage in genuine, political action.

The ‘throw everything including the kitchen sink’ is no answer. It is a non-answer.

They are bound to nothing.

The United States Republic has collapsed. It doesn’t exist. It’s just that some people who go through life by force of habit will need time to grasp the situation.

Irwin Judson's avatar

America deserves what it gets. With its eyes wide open and knowing full well, it voted for fascism. I feel no sympathy.

Francesca Cee's avatar

How nice. Most of us didn't vote for this shit show. Do you hate all the people of any country with a dictator? Ignorant.

Irwin Judson's avatar

I do not hate. If most of you didn’t vote for this shit show, I.e. you mean over 50%, then how did he claim the President’s throne? So he just swooped in and claimed it illegally. And you are letting him get away with it?!

Sherry Gerbi's avatar

I blame the 1/3 of the population that didn’t bother to vote through apathy, laziness, or whatever excuse they give themselves. I knew from the time he started a feud with Rosie O’Donnell what a petty little man he was. I educated myself as to his history - 3rd generation of liars & grifters. I never voted for him & in fact, I’m very proud that I voted for the woman who promised hope & joy for all of America. I understood that campaign promises from him were empty promises. The only promise he has kept is the one of retribution. God save us all except for dRumpf & his unholy regime.

Seamus Onyou's avatar

The seemingly narrow margin that he "won" by was a result of manipulated voting machines and in the largest state of contention, Pennsylvania. It was rigged. It was stolen. Remember Elon Musk? He admitted to the fraudulent voting.

Francesca Cee's avatar

And it sounds like what you're advocating for us collective punishment. You're no better than the fascists in Washington.

Monty Cobb's avatar

The revealing sentence in your comment is, "I feel no sympathy." That describes pathology. Additionally, sympathy is not something sought or needed. And as for your reply to Francesca Cee, for someone to say they do not hate and at the same time do not feel sympathy describes an automaton - or just a bullshitter.

Josie Esquivel's avatar

I'm not sure the majority have a clue. I don't know your age, but Civics has been gone from public education for years. And, unless you looks for it, where else will a young person learn these things?

Gregg Moneyhun's avatar

What are we to do about it. Please elucidate action steps. We are ready to push back and need action items more than words that state the obvious.

Josie Esquivel's avatar

Are you that easily beaten? Or just a troll 🧌?

Seamus Onyou's avatar

Hasn't even been a year. Any form of "speaking up" or "revolution" will be met with military force. We are done for now. RIP U.S.A.
