Genius writing; inspired, passionate, other-worldliness and rock-bottom reality mixed together...

I could read this stuff all day and night and only take an occasional coffee-break.

I feel like the spirit of Hunter Thompson is inhabiting this piece (not meaning to subtract from the originality.)

This is the kind of word arranging that can elevate a human into another dimension.

In its way, it's more subversive than straight political calls-to-arms...

Thank you--

Always a reminder that my home state is exotic and mysterious. Well written. We are not unaware but like everywhere we are under siege.

They always go for what they assume are the defenseless looking for

“treasure”. NM feels like a big target but we do have our outspoken protectors and the people here long before us. You never know what we will fight for and when.

Your writing described the quiet, the night sky, and the sacredness of the land so well, I felt I was experiencing that evening with you. I am sad for the land, I am sad for us all. Pass the joint, please.

I appreciate the gonzo travelogue through my home turf, but is there something specific that leads you to say they're coming for public lands? My sense is they have other priorities, at least for now, but the reference to rare earth minerals raises red flags, because, you know, we mostly get those from China now, and that probably won't last long.

Many people visit NM but never really "get it." I love reading such a well written piece by someone who does.

Does someone want to explain what this is about? I obviously missed something!

Fascinating read! I’m Harrison, an ex fine dining industry line cook. My stack "The Secret Ingredient" adapts hit restaurant recipes (mostly NYC and L.A.) for easy home cooking. Dm me if interested in a recommendation swap — we’re growing fast!

"The vibe was somewhere between spa retreat and cult suicide pact." Some might say that in this one sentence, you have described the whole of New Mexico outside of Albuquerque (which has its own problems but its own sacred weirdness, too).

I hope you found some peace here as well.

Is anyone else really fucking tired of "Emma Horsedick (don't laugh)" commenting on everything with the same three or four comments? I'm blocking this person so I don't have to see any of that bot-looking nonsense anymore. I invite everyone to do the same.

As it turns out, this probable bot has no profile page to block. I reported instead because it's so damn annoying.

We must guard the wild treasures we have left because they are the sacred relics! Thanks for the documentation!

EXQUISITE and evocative writing. 100% true. They are coming for all beauty and silence. Human bulldozers of destruction chasing things we can live without. Can we break ur e-addictions?
