Reality has become sad and tiring. Sadtire

I've been feeling sorry for satirists for a while now, as it's hard to tell the difference between satire and reality. But recently, I realized there's a group of people who are having an even harder time with all this...

We're only about six months into this, and the finish line is open-ended.

Well, someone on TikTok predicted August 24, 2025 am around 9 am. We'll see...

I've been following him for a long time. Sure, reality seems to be outpacing satire, but I don't think the Onion is going out of business any time soon. Also, the difference between stupid (which is the current default) and satire (which deflates stupid pretensions) is worth noting. Satire exaggerates the imbecility and thereby mocks it for what it is. The problem is that it's difficult to satirize such abysmally stupid realities.

To quote Col. Kurtz’s dying words, “The horror, the horror.” I now know what Conrad was getting at. Also, what Nietzsche was really trying to say was satire, not God, satire was dead. RIP Andy, we hardly knew ya 🙃

Sad, but true. Reality is too close to satire!

I have noticed that humorist and satirists are either less funny, or much darker.

Although I value humor more than serious opinions often, they're just too close to reality.

It's not that humor is less brilliant, life looks too much like parody of what should be reality.

The Onion is crying, too.

This piece is brillaint on so many levels. The idea that Borowitz himself has become obsolete becuase reality outpaced satire is both funny and genuinly concerning. It's like we've entered some bizarre alternate universe where the satirists are the ones struggling to keep up with actual events. The irony of writing satire about a satirist who can no longer satirize reality is pretty much the perfect summation of where we are right now.
