You have more courage than I do. My local police might very well lock me up! I could try!

Go ask questions on behalf of a friend.

As anyone in the Military will tell you: “Freedom, isn’t Free. There needs to be action! This type of civil obedience is good but takes time. A dozen Million Person Marches in every MAJOR AMERICAN CITY, and a general strike, combined with a complete boycott for a predetermined time period would make a lot more impact

ACTUALLY – I think organized "cells" of 25, at dozens (hundreds preferred) of stations across the country, simultaneously (or nearly so) would at the very minimum be a significant media op. This idea is being discussed on F&L–CttE Fb page now.

Me? I think it is a brilliant, creative, engaging, fun form of protest. So I will keep watch on the fb post, and also remember to call my friend to get her to call her lawyer friends to recommend a civil rights lawyer (correct?) in case I get locked up (a call which I have been, uh, forgetting to make for a couple of months)

Sharing this elsewhere. Thank you, @ClosertotheEdge. I love it. It's so REAL.

"Alice's Restaurant" to the Nth !!! Thanks for the opportunity of the pleasure of revisiting. (And, yeah you bet your ass – we should sing it the stations.) I'm listening now . . .

I live in Florida. I absolutely would get locked up. So, I guess I’d better saddle up! 😁

I'm in the blue oasis of Atlanta, in an otherwise savage and rotten red Georgia. This could work brilliantly where I am locally as we have lost of PoC wearing the shield.

I’m not being dismissive of the original idea… just find that larger more visible ideas are usually more effective and the economic pressure the strike and boycott would make are probably more effective. Just my opinion.

Agreed. I hope everyone who wants to make good trouble feels strong and supported enough to do it, in ways that work for them. But - we need to hit the big money who really run this country in their wallets, hard. General strike, boycotts - it's all about the money bottom line. F47 and P2025 are just just collateral damage, as long as their profit margin is good and they can keep convincing us WE need THEM. Until Citizens United is repealed, it's going to be an uphill battle.

Mine would arrest me. I think they're a bunch of what I like to call "yahoos".

Absolutely brilliant series. Hoping I have the courage to do this myself. Love it

Chris Resists's avatar

...yeah, I think Imma try this. I have the courage to do it. I just don't have the courage to answer to my wife if they think they need to hold me for 48.

Well done. I've been smiling since the first part and thinking - Is Arlo Guthrie guest writing this story?

I actually told one of my kids I was going to turn myself in, then read this. 😉

Brilliant, humorous, sobering.

It’s an excellent idea. On a regular basis, it would be good to see people check into their local police station to identify themselves as being anti-fascist in sufficient numbers to get attention. Who knows, it might make a movement.

Fuck yes!! I love this story and the bravery you showed. Wouldn't that be a moment in history if millions of us all did this at the same time?

Bravo, Rook! I like the persistence.

Alice’s Restaurant indeed. I have to admit I am scared to do what you describe. Hummm…
