Everyone should read Lisa Graves' new book about corruption on the Supreme Court. “A devastating, passionate takedown of Chief Justice John Roberts’s Supreme Court by a Washington insider.” —Jane Mayer, author of Dark Money

In the last twenty years the US Supreme Court has radically curtailed voting rights, undermined anti-corruption measures, encouraged extreme political gerrymandering, restricted the regulation of guns, and obliterated the constitutional right to control one’s reproductive choices. This transformation was orchestrated by a billionaire-backed reactionary political movement, whose interests Chief Justice John Roberts has been all too willing to serve.

Without Precedent explodes the falsehood that Roberts is a fair-minded institutionalist who works to blunt the worst impulses of other Republican appointees to the court when, in fact, he has led the rightward transformation of the court’s jurisprudence while presiding over the most corrupt and corrupted Supreme Court in American history.

And Citizens United, which has had a dramatic, potentially fatal, impact on the entire “free and fair” election process.

Yes, and even more specifically it is an Opus Dei Supreme Court - since Leonard Leo is a high-ranking member of Opus Dei and had been doing their work for decades through the Federalist Society. Read Gareth Gore’s book “Opus” for the details.

I would certainly love to read this book, Ginny, but it is not available for purchase in my home country, Australia, and possibly many others. Why?Perhaps Trump's mate Jeff Bezos doesn't want the word out that the USA is far from the zenith of democracy and good governance that it claims to be. The world needs to know the truth that we have long suspected.

Correct, and succinct. Brilliant.

“Nothing happens without Trump.” Why is that the everyday person can see this clearly, but those with the clout cannot.

They see it. They do not act on it because he's got something on them, or they paid somehow for their position, or they just plain don't give a d**n. There are "shady" things going on in this administration...between and among lots of people!

Can not or choose to not see?

I have never had any doubts about Trump’s inherent lack of fitness for public office and Jack Smith’s testimony only confirms it. The biggest problem we face is that the indictments, the case and the evidence that Smith prepared for it WERE NEVER ACTUALLY BROUGHT IN A COURT OF LAW‼️ The minute Trump was elected the case was aborted. How’s that for judicial impartiality⁉️🤦🏻‍♂️🙄 Had he been able to complete the process in front of a judge and jury, there is no doubt that justice would have prevailed but we will never know now what the outcome would have looked like because the case was quashed. 🤬🤷🏻‍♂️ Very disappointing

Excellent summary.

Jack Smith’s experience is extensive and solid, and his reputation is exceptional.

Maybe dRumpf can try to hire him when he’s standing in the docket at The Hague!

Can’t wait for that day.

Regardless of how anyone feels about what Jabba has done to us this time around, Jack Smith’s testimony clearly displays why this time around should never have been allowed to happen, and must be terminated.

After the Judiciary Committee failed to show that the two cases are evidence of a weaponised justice system and instead made very clear that there were substantial and serious cases to be answered, it will be interesting to see what action, if any, is taken as a follow up.

My husband has been saying this since the beginning. Thanks for the clear explanation.

I am about halfway through watching his testimony on YouTube.

STELLAR!

I have to admit that I fell in love with Jack Smith during that horrendous debacle! He is focused, thorough, precise intelligent and was the most experienced special counsel to complete the task at hand.

I liked Jack Smith's straightforward manner. Without DJT, the riot and insurrection on January 6 would not have happened.

Anyone who watched the events that occurred that day had to know who was responsible. It was Trump! The violent conspirators were tried and convicted for their crimes. And they were pardoned by the worst criminal who was also a convicted felon. In this 250th anniversary year of our nation so many men and women have sacrificed so much to protect it. And we currently have the worst president in our history who is destroying our nation. Democrats must retake control of the Congress along with Republicans and impeach him

It is interesting that one can ask, why are these laws not being enforced? And of course the answer is that the enforcement of laws is the function of the Executive Branch.

I was listening to NPR when Trump finally, FINALLY told the insurectionists to go home:

"So go home. We love you. You're very special. You've seen what happens, you see the way others are treated that are so bad and so evil. I know how you feel. But go home, and go home in peace."

And the NPR reporter, when he was done? I could hear her take a breath, as though she couldn't believe what she had just heard.

Trump sending them home with "love" is one of those moments I will never forget.

I am just sick that this is our country. How anyone could have voted for this person after Jan 6 is infuriating.

Merry's avatar

Hey, he lost me after his “grab em by the pussy” comment.

But I never would have voted for this devious corrupt grifter anyway.

And quite honestly, I could (and still don’t) understand how any decent man with a wife, sister, mother, daughter, female friends or self respect could possibly have considered voting for this sexual deviant predator!

There’s a lot of latent racists & dRumpf was able to move that racism from black to brown.

Found the questions about the Robert Jackson’s speech interesting - seems as though Smith prosecuted by those rules - the current DOJ under Trump’s thumb not so much - and the fact the transcript of Jackson’s speech is on the DOJ website 🤭https://www.justice.gov/sites/default/files/ag/legacy/2011/09/16/04-01-1940.pdf
