This sounds like the plot of a terrible film where you see people shaking their heads in denial, hear people saying it could never happen here. And as they empty the theater of their lives on to the streets, they look around them and realize it is happening not just here, but now.

I personally think Mussolini is a closer analogue than Hitler. With maybe an amalgam of Berluscone, Qaddafi and Idi Amin coming in second.

I agree. As a historian of the period, without Mussolini's blackshirts and the Fascist successful march on Rome in 1922 making him the Italian Prime Minister, Hitler would not have had the Fascist inspiration for his National Socialists and the brownshirts.

Mussolini also strikes me as a closer personality match, particularly in his satyriasis.

I would bet that most people know Hitler 100 times better than they know about Mussolini. But otherwise I agree.

Yes they do, which is why it was best to compare DJT with Hitler. Most folks can recognize even just a photo of Hitler, without his name. Those visual profile images of DJT and Hitler plus words “The Blueprint for Tyranny” definitely grabbed my attention!

They are running Hitlers pogrom in word and deed. It’s Hitler. He said “I need the kind of generals Hitler had.”

Nicely lined out. But - we're not shutting up.

Correct. If you were want to read more Shirer’ The Rise and Fall of the Third Reich.” For a tough but worthwhile read Hannah Arendt “The Origins of Totalitarianism.”

Chilling but true. Not just in the US but in many nations across the world, the same scenario is being played out with a different cast of characters. Crony capitalism added to this toxic brew makes even more poisonous.

Mary Therése's avatar

“Chilling” is the word along with, for me, “Surreal” and “Gut Wrenching”.

How could this be happening in my beloved 🇺🇸 America the Beautiful?

CHILLING

Stalin would have been a better comparison, or Mussolini. Hitler was focused on the extermination of the Jews, where Trump's immigration parallels are weak at best. He doesn't care about exterminating anybody, and in fact doesn't even care if POC are here...he just wants as much control of them as possible. Steven Miller's a total Nazi, of course, but the comparison would have to change to include Goebbels if you want a parallel.

There is a female propagandist whose toxicity knows no bounds.

Sticking ones head in the sand does not make it all go away, it acts to amplify its progress.

How true—no matter whether it’s happening in one’s Outer or Inner World.

Why do people engage in what seems to be a Denial of Reality in their lives?

This reminds me of Dan Carlin's series "Blueprint for Armageddon"

Assuming - amidst our increasingly dystopian future, that anyone is around to read (or is still ABLE and/or so inclined to do so for that matter), when the history of this period is written, THIS could well be its introduction ... but as the proportionate tombstone will grow ever larger - giving testament to the oncoming death of billions, this could also be our epitaph.

Could we not see it, we would merely be victims.

Knowing this, it is suicide.
